Food Foundations (Community cookery course)

About this class

Join us for FOOD FOUNDATIONS to learn essential cookery skills and gain confidence – for those looking to work or volunteer in food or just cook tastier, healthier food at home.

Who’s this for? This course is for anyone who wants to gain confidence in the kitchen. We will be:

  • Learning and improving knife and kitchen skills
  • Gaining knowledge of flavours and ingredients
  • Growing in experience and confidence to create meals from surplus food and leftovers, making the most of what is availabl

Course structure:

We’ll spend five sessions (one session per week) at the Community Kitchen cooking in pairs and  building up skills making:

1) Soup and Bread
2) Curries
3) Salad and Dips
4) Pasta and Sauces
5) Baking

Dates:

  • Thursday 13th April 2023 10am-1pm
  • Thursday 20th April 10am-1pm
  • Thursday 27th April 10am-1pm
  • Thursday  4th May 10am – 1pm
  • Thursday 11th May 10am – 1pm

This course will run again over the year, further details will be announced on our website and in our email newsletters.

Application instructions

Who can attend?

People who are able to participate independently and attend an in person cookery session. Attendees must be either social housing residents, on benefits, or older people living alone or with a health condition.

Cost:

We ask for a £5 donation per session (suggested), depending what you can afford. Speak to us if cost is a barrier. Payments can be made in cash at each session.
