Food Foundations – Community cookery course

About this class

Join us for FOOD FOUNDATIONS to gain confidence and knowledge on flavours, food preservation, processing and nutrition.

Who’s this for? This course is for anyone who wants to learn some basic cooking skills, gain confidence and pick up some transferrable catering skills. There is no specific eligibility criteria.

Course structure:

We’ll spend four sessions (one session per week) at the Community Kitchen focusing on:

  • Learning and improving knife and kitchen skills
  • Gaining knowledge of flavours and ingredients
  • Growing in experience and confidence to create meals from surplus food, making the most of what is available
  • Learning about preserving food by dehydration
  • A focused session with our Nutritionist

Dates:

  • Wednesday 13th April 10am-1pm
  • Wednesday 20th April 10am-1pm
  • Wednesday 27th April 10am-1pm
  • Wednesday 4th May 10am-1pm

Covid-19 safety measures

This class takes place after 19th July when social distancing rules and other covid-related regulations are removed. If new restrictions are announced, we will adapt our procedures according to the latest government guidelines and any updates will be sent by email and listed on our website. Our Kitchen space continues to be kept to a very high standard of cleaning and hygiene regardless.

 

This course will likely run again over the next year, further details will be announced on our website and in our email newsletters.

This project is funded by The Big Lottery Community Fund and is part of a national project Ready, Healthy, Eat led by The Real Farming Trust and working with organisations in Edinburgh, Waltham Forest and Belfast.

Cost:

We ask for a £5 donation per session (suggested), depending what you can afford. Speak to us if cost is a barrier. Payments can be made in cash at each session.
