The Green Wellbeing Alliance is a membership body for local organisations that provide therapeutic outdoor activities for vulnerable people. Participants improve wellbeing and health while connecting with nature and other people. Brighton & Hove Food Partnership are active members & supporters of the Alliance.
Anyone who feels outdoor activities could benefit their wellbeing is encouraged to get in touch, and professional referrals are also welcome.
Find out about our member projects and how to get involved on the Green Wellbeing Alliance website.
Many national studies and reports have highlighted the benefits of garden and outdoor projects for physical & mental health. They have been proven to reduce stress, depression, self-harm and destructive behaviours and improve social interaction, life satisfaction, self-esteem, meaningful activity and achievement.
All members of the Alliance offer “nature-based interventions designed and structured for health and social care treatment, for vulnerable groups in society including those with mental illness, learning difficulties, dementia, or life limiting illness” (definition from the national Green Care Coalition).
Independent evaluations of local projects within the Alliance back-up these findings and show greater benefit for vulnerable people taking part (see the evidence summary on the GWA website). For more information about this evidence base visit the national Growing Health website.
We also have waterproof, Nature Activity Card packs available for sale to share with other group leaders wanting ideas for nature connection & wellbeing activities.
It’s been worth more and more useful to me than all the psychotherapies I’ve had. It’s been amazing for me.
