Support our winter appeal

Each year we do a winter appeal to try and get more donations from our community into the food banks, affordable food shops, community meals and more. This year we’re running a tin competition to see how many tins of food we can raise as a community.

Although we’re running a tin competition, many projects really need financial donations. If you can give a regular or one-off donation, even if just the price of a pint or coffee per month, get in touch or check our map for your nearest project.

Tin competition

Get your workplace, school or year-group in the holiday spirit this year by signing up for the tin competition, and raise as many tins, dried foods and more as we can for the city.

How you can help:

  • Sign your team, colleagues or year-group up to join the tin competition by emailing info@bhfood.org.uk. We can tell you the best place to donate.
  • Support us by posting our campaign on your social media account, using this pre-made square social media post.
  • Nominate a tin-collector – they are responsible for reminding you and the team to bring in your tins, spare change, or to donate into a digital pot
  • Have a look at our shopping list for ideas of what to buy
  • Once you’ve got a fund, your tin collector can buy some donations from your local shop
  • Take a photo of you and the team with your haul and count it!
  • Post your pictures on social media, tag us at @btnhovefood. Or email it to us at info@bhfood.org.uk. We can’t wait to see what you collect!
  • Get your donations over to the nearest donation basket by Friday 19th December

The top 3 tin donors will be announced on our social media on December 22nd, and shared with our 6,000 newsletter readers in January.

How you can help as an individual:

There are donation baskets around the city, have a look at our list and pop by with some tins.

You can also find out where to donate food, money or time to your local food bank. Please note most projects use an ongoing volunteer team rather than recruiting volunteers just for the holiday season. Donations of funding, no matter the amount, are hugely valued by projects to enable them to purchase items as needed by their users.
